Though the exact cause of schizophrenia is not known to anybody but the scientists are trying with their extreme hard work in order to find out the causes of schizophrenia. To find out the cause of schizophrenia scientists are doing molecular biology studies, genetic studies and biochemistry studies.

In one of the researches by the scientists, it has been proved that in schizophrenia patient there is some presence of neurochemical imbalance. Studies are going on the various types of neurotransmitters and the scientists are testing drugs like antipsychotics. Testing on drugs including antipsychotics is done on three neurotransmitters serotonin, dopamine, and norepinefrine.

Out of the researches conducted in context to molecular biology it has been revealed that there is some irregular pattern of brain cells in schizophrenia patients. According to the scientists with the irregular pattern of brain cells, there is chance of schizophrenia during the prenatal period and also there is a possibility of later development of schizophrenia disease.

In context to the genetic studies, researches have shown that schizophrenia is not a hereditary disease. Schizophrenia is not derived from the parent of child.

According to some people, stress is the main cause of schizophrenia, but stress is not the root cause. Stress only make the schizophrenia symptoms look worst than the previous, but it does not causes the disease.

There is also a myth that the overuse of drugs is the cause of schizophrenia. Drugs only increase the level of schizophrenia symptoms or takes schizophrenia to a greatest degree, but it is the main cause of the disease. This shows that the symptoms of schizophrenia have also existed before, before the use of drugs but the use of drugs has taken schizophrenia to a next degree which is a more complicated one. In case of healthy persons drugs only create the symptom like that of schizophrenia but does not create the disease originally.

The main facts which have been revealed of what schizophrenia is all about and what are the main causes of the disease, is that it is a mental disease, in which there is association of biochemical changes in the brain along with the physical changes. The disease is generally revealed at an adolescent age, at most during the period of 16 to 25 years of age. It affects nearly 1% of the total population of the world.

The treatments and medications which are available now are of great importance and can be used to treat the disease effectively
